Friday Funny – Bump of Chicken & Chris Bosh Editon

21 06 2013

Today we’ve got a little bit of this, and a little bit of that.  First up, a nice team find, led by our San Gabriel Valley bureau chief, and Senior Asian Cinema correspondent – a live-action Gatchaman movie is coming out.

Bump of Chicken is a Japanese rock band

(Not sure if this will work in WordPress – probably not)

In the trailer for this movie, we noticed something strange in the corner of the screen – a reference to “Bump of Chicken”.

It turns out they are a Japanese rock band – and a pretty good one too!

Here’s an entertaining video from them – “Sailing Day”:

Of course, we’d like to give a shout out to our favorite Japanese American/Japanese rock band, Lemon Drop Kick:

They do a great cover of Vacation by the GoGos, but I can’t find it on YouTube.

Next up, we want to salute – in the RttRL fashion – the Miami Heat’s recent win over the San Antonio Spurs, for the 2013 NBA Championship title. Specifically, we wanted to share the following images that were ricocheting around the office this morning:

Here’s the original from a couple of years ago:

Although, we have to admit – Bosh is a hell of an athlete, as odd-looking as he may be on the court.  And look – when he smiles, he looks nice!  Bosh, you’re on the wrong coast, dude. Come out West please.

Friday Funny – Unintentional Ironic Juxtaposition

This partial screen shot was taken from a weekly “new movie” email newsletter.

We could not help smiling a little at the unfortunate pairing of these two movie posters (and film titles):

Friday Funny – Boredom

“Hot damn, I’ve never rode in a convertible before!”

“Well I guess it’s about time then, isn’t it?  GET IN.”

Sylvester Stallone – Immortal?

31 05 2012

Our Los Angeles bureau chief recently brought this to our attention.

Apparently there have been rumors circulating that actor Sylvester Stallone may well be a vampire, or some kind of immortal being, because there is a character in a 500-year old painting in the Vatican that bears an uncanny resemblance to the star of the Rocky movies:

The Dictator at The Oscars

27 02 2012

He made it to the red carpet after all!  With the “ashes” of Kim Jong Il in a little urn, which he proceeded to “spill” all over host Ryan Seacrest. He then told Seacrest, as he was being dragged away,

“If someone asks who you are wearing, tell them Kim Jong Il!”

The Cats Are Taking Over

28 10 2011

Well, we knew this day was coming. At least people who live in my neighborhood did (I swear, we have more cats per capita than anyplace else in SoCal).

No seriously, this was from the “cat premiere” for the new Puss in Boots movie.  This is a real picture, with real “trained cats” and Antonio Banderas.
