Mountain Elementary in Abbotsford raises over $8,300 for Ronald McDonald House

Mountain Elementary School celebrated raising almost $8,400 for Ronald McDonald House on McHappy Day with an assembly and picnic lunch on Friday (May 10).

The initiative was all started in honour of Dhruv Agnihotri, a Grade 2 student at the school, who was diagnosed with lymphoma in October. Dhruv and his family have stayed at Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon while he has been fighting cancer at BC Children’s Hospital.

Two Abbotsford students accepted into competitive House of Commons Page Program

Two W.J. Mouat Secondary School students have been accepted into the prestigious House of Commons Page Program in Ottawa.

Michael Donohue and Marianne Garza will work in the House of Commons while they complete the first-year of their undergraduate studies at the University of Ottawa.

Only 40 upcoming graduates are selected from across Canada, so to have two from the same high school is remarkable.

Abbotsford students place second at Reading Link grand challenge

Mathxwí Elementary competed against teams from across Greater Vancouver after winning Fraser Valley system.

The Ruthless Readers from Mathxwí Elementary School placed second at the grand challenge level of the Reading Link Challenge competition.

The competition was held in North Vancouver on May 1 with teams from the Fraser Valley, Coquitlam, Vancouver, New Westminster and Surrey library systems going head-to-head to determine an overall winner.

Owen Sekhon, Jay Sekhon, Nixon Fyfe, Pavel Baring and Stephanie Anderson made up the Ruthless Readers.

RBSS Timberwolves win first-ever high school girls hockey game over Sardis

A significant piece of Fraser Valley hockey history occurred on Thursday (May 2) afternoon at the Sardis Sports Complex.

For the first time ever, two all-girls high school hockey teams from the eastern Fraser Valley faced off when the Robert Bateman Timberwolves took on the Sardis Falcons.

The Timberwolves picked up the 4-2 win in the game. Bateman got two goals from Tess McFadyen, with Isabelle Dixon and Cypress Desomeraux also adding goals. Alyssa Flores earned the win in goal.

Bhangra Beats Bring Traditional Schools Together in Celebration of Vaisakhi (PHOTOS)

Students and staff at Abbotsford School District's traditional schools experienced a vibrant display of culture and community this April as a Bhangra dance team and Dohl drummer from Abbotsford Traditional School (ATS) toured our traditional elementary schools. Performances were part of an initiative to celebrate Vaisakhi, while also fostering stronger connections among our traditional schools.

Board Approves Local School Calendar for 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27 School Years

At the March 12, 2024, board meeting, the Abbotsford Board of Education passed a motion to approve and formalize the school calendars for the 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27 school years. The Abbotsford Board of Education is required to create a calendar that meets the legislated requirements of the School Act, and the Abbotsford Teachers Union (ATU) Collective Agreement. These calendars establish the start and end dates of the school year, as well as key holiday breaks and non-instructional days.
